Sins of the Past
Davin Lux, also known as the Gray Son, is an enigmatic character who is known for communing with the unsettled spirit of Maria Grayson, the woman whose psychic blast decimated the entire city of Barcelona back in 30 Y.A.E. and finally forced the world to recognize Force powers as reality.
Lux emerged as a powerful Force user in his home in the trading city of Egypt, where he grew up as a starved street rat. For his entire early life Lux remained just a step away from slavers, organ traders, and the local police, using his innate understanding of the Force to assist him in this task. For some unknown reason dubbed “The Gray Son” among the common folk, he was often seen streaking across buildings faster than any normal man, jumping from rooftop to rooftop with ease as he was chased by one organization or the other that wanted him in their clutches. In his youth he was a rabble rouser, an often chaotic and anarchic character that for the common folk personified their dislike of organized crime and a corrupt government. As he grew into manhood Lux found himself in a unique position; looked up to by the common folk and possessed of an inherently powerful grasp on the Force, he realized that he could be an engine of real good in the world. He slowly began to gather together a resistance, a group of like minded individuals that yearned to rebel against the current state of Egypt’s government and its corrupt leaders drowning in wealth while the common people died in droves in the massive slums. Over the course of ten years, this resistance grew and started fighting back. Hundreds died and eventually Lux himself was captured and tortured almost to death. Using the Force to finally free himself, he went into hiding even from his own resistance as he realized that his path was futile. No matter how much he balked and fought, Egypt had too much resources and manpower to be stopped. He decided he needed more training and patience in order to make a real difference in the world, so he traveled the continents, studying with several Force Orders as he struggled to understand the powers that had been granted to him. Rumors abounded that he even spent time with the mysterious Jedi and not only learned their ways but became a high ranking member of their order for a time.
Some 20 years later Lux was found traveling the countryside of the land once known as Spain. Time had not been kind to the country; drought and famine were a constant danger among the many small villages and farms as the climate had slowly but inevitably turned drier. Desperation had turned many to banditry, and the lack of government meant that the common people had no defense against them. Appearing as nothing more than a poor pilgrim in a rough spun robe, he preached his ideals of community and harmony to anyone that would listen. Lux believed that all beings could live together peacefully, no matter the color of their skin or the shape of their bodies. In order to resist the onslaught of greedy bandits, the raids and kidnappings of the True Humans, and even the hard, dry grasp of the environment. the people must rise and join hands to put a stop to it. He prophesied that in the north a city would be built, a city named Sanctity, and it would be the seat of a new world order.
Lux toured the countryside for 5 years and during that time many fantastical stories sprouted up that would be told for years to come. Some of the most famous of those involve him deposing of local bandit lords that treated the common folk poorly; in many of these stories it was said that Lux possessed a sword of light that cut through his enemies like butter. Eventually he made his way to the abandoned ruins of Barcelona, now accompanied by hundreds of disciples, and right outside the plateau he told them the story of Maria and Francis Grayson and the Grayson Incident. He admitted that he himself was the reincarnation of Francis Grayson and that in a vision he was told that his purpose was to put to rest the spirit of his long dead wife that haunted the ruins so that the city of Sanctity could be built here. After revealing this information, he walked alone into the rubble of Barcelona and was never seen again.
For days Lux’s followers waited at the edge of the ruins until they grew weary and frightened; eventually they decided to enter the plateau in search of him. What they found was both startling and and awe inspiring; a single building now stood near the center of the city, a cathedral of fluted spires and delicate filigree. Unknown to the followers, this building once stood centuries ago during Barcelona’s peak and was then called the Sagrada Familia. Some force had resurrected the building from the ashes to rise above the ruins as fresh and new as when it was first completed.
Inside the building, the people found carved into the floor of the basilica in large, flowing script, the following: “Here begins Sanctity, the first City of the Republic. Build it as a city of the people, of all people. Never forget.”
